Can Sub Pages have more Page Rank than the Home Page ?

Hey everybody,

Can one or more sub pages in a website have more page rank than the home page.

My scenario is: My website is based in a very competitive space and ranking for primary keywords is nearly impossible (at least for sometime:))

What I am thinking of is that if I concentrate on a niche within that space and create sub pages for that niche on my main website. Then gradually build up the PR for those sub-pages, can I route the PR to my home page and benefit in ranking for more competitive keywords?

Sub pages can definitely have higher page rank compared to the home page. I have several in that situation.

I have a site on widgets, but the most popular term is blue widgets. Lots of inbound links etc to the blue widget page give it a higher PR compared to the home page.
