Google Groups search is a forum search?

If you do a search on Google Groups the SERPs are from forums across the web.

[groups.google.com...]

Interestingly the Advanced Search allows you to target time very, very selectively.

Has this been noticed before?

Google Groups was created when Google purchased the archives of the Usenet groups - and clicking on the radio button for "Search: ...Google Groups" (rather than "all groups") still confines the search to just those archives.

Before you brought it up, I didn't realize that what we have in the default setting is essentially a global "Forum Search" product. I feel like I should have noticed this earlier - I was thinking it only searched the former Usenet discussions.

The fine-tuned date (and other) parameters were first noted back in October 2008 (reference [webmasterworld.com])
