Deleting links or build more other links?

Hello! If you think you have been punished by a kind of "too many links out of one network"-penalty, would you delete all links (which will perhaps end up in google getting even more suspicious) or would you try to get more links from other pages out of the network to balance the number of links out of the network?

I would have the network links removed if possible since they probably are not adding any value to your sites rankings anyway

But what if these links are there because they cover different topics in the same niche and are there mainly for traffic purposes rather then link juice?

In that case nofollow the links, Google will ignore them and visitors can use them. Other search engines may still use them too.

Is nofollow the best way to address this and then send a reconsideration request for these sites to google? These sites are currently experiencing the -50 penalty..

If you are able to gain high quality links outside of your current network, you may be able to lift the penalty that way. It's hard to say exaclty how many links it would take, but the higher quality the better and few it will take.

problem is google will never say the site gets a penalty for incoming links. would be too easy to kill a competitor.
most of these penalties are hand made and last 90 days. best thing to do is build good links and get rid of the crap links the site got caught with.

Thanks for your replys. The question is: Will I make google even more suspicious if I'm deleteing a lot of links at the same time?

Here's the thing. The site that has the network links on them is not a crap site. It is an authority site for its industry so I am not sure if I should ask them to remove my links, no follow my links or do nothing and wait...

Are you sure this is why you have been penalized?

I would first work on building new quality links into your site. This will take time, effort and patience.

Simply buying links in masses works, but only for short periods of time and could get you into more trouble. Even shorter periods of time if your competitors are keeping an eye on your linking strategy.

Its rarely "too many links from one place", and much more often "a disproportionate amount".

Assuming its not link spamming or the worlds worst link-buying strategy, this can be rectified in two ways; the right way and the wrong way. The wrong way is culling links.

The right way is to build an actual proper link profile such that it is not inappropriately dependant on any given source. As MadeWillis says: [quote]This will take time, effort and patience.[quote]

maybe this isn't the right thread, but can anyone explain to me how they know this to be true, what idolw wrote about -50 penalties: "...most of these penalties are hand made and last 90 days."
i have the impression from what i read that we don't really know whether these penalties are manually done or algo induced, and i have read that the time may be from 6-12 months or perhaps indefinitely.

can anyone help me clarify this issue, not that it's happened to me but it appears someone in my niche has this -50 penalty and I am curious about it and the duration. thanks.
