So we dropped a page in rank for our site in google. When we checked back the title in the index of our site it was wrong. However the title that came up on google was the correct one.

Don't know how the title change affected us?

Anyhow so I changed back the title to the correct one and moved on. When I did a search today google had my title as the old wrong one. How could this be?

This was within a few days. Google had the correct title while we had the wrong one. We changed it on our page back to the correct one. A few days later google had our old wrong title.

If you have the correct title now, Google will pick it up and eventually it should switch again.

Had the same situation recently. Changed the title and Google kept the old one.
It took 15 days for G to get it all sorted out.
During this time it would sometimes show new, sometimes old. Depending on the day.

Eventually it figures everything out. Although I can see that changing titles is a risky thing to do.
