Personalized search - potential heart attack

I'm really really mad at Google for tricking me up yesterday. I was checking my rankings for target keyword and saw my site on first page, second place ! I *almost* started celebrating, but then realized something is very fishy here...
Logged out of my Google account and BANG, I drop to 9th page.
Why Google? WHY do you mock me like that? : P
Personalized search my *** ! : (

Personally I'd love to see Google get some *real* competition. I don't like the idea of them remaining the masters of web searching universe.
It actually decides if you live or die. Rank high, hooray! Rank low, bye bye money, bye bye effort : P

You can achieve that, but you have to earn it. Get good at old-fashioned promotion, the kind a savvy business person would do if Google didn't exist.

Last time I checked, providing properly formatted quality content was a choice I made myself.
