A month ago google showed my site as having 76 links:
"Results 1 - 10 of about 76 linking to...."
over 2 weeks it showed 66
yesterday it showed 65
today it showed 62
We realistically have 1800 links linking to us. Why is this happening?

The public link: operator only returns a small sample of all the links Google knows about - it's always been this way. There's more information available in the Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page.
If you set up a Webmaster Tools account, Google will show you MANY more of your backlinks. It's still not a complete listing, but it's a lot closer.

OK understandable but anytime I lose a link on google my site drops. It started on page 2 with 76 links and is now on page 4 with 62 links. This can't be a coincidence. Also I don't believe we are losing links. In fact we are getting more and more links.
