Updates to Google Local Business Guidelines

This is long overdue, but at least it's finally arrived. A significant update to the guidelines for submitting to Google Businesses.

It was getting crazy, companies registering to the nearest centroid, multiple locations for the same business and affiliates just creating hundreds of entries <using the local business address>.

Now much of this will keep going on, but at least now there's something that Google can smack the offenders with.

Would be great to see some kind of reporting mechanism in place to help accelerate the cleanup.

The information for reporting spam in Google Maps is rjust below the bulleted list.

If you believe that another business is abusing Google's quality guidelines, we encourage you to report the listing [maps.google.com]. Your reports help us to improve the overall Google Maps experience for everyone.

I hope this will make some difference in the maps listing as currently most of it is spam (repeated listing of the same business)...
