Should I Link to Products From Aged Content

I have heard/read that Google frowns upon new links from old content.

Clearly this would be a signal of link manipulation, ie... selling links on blog posts days or years after the content is indexed. Right?

I am introducing a shopping cart to an established content site and would love to add links (from existing articles) to catagory/product pages.

At the moment a newly published article or post ranks top 5 for the title text usually within 20 minutes.

My question is - would you consider directing visitors to the commercial part of the website by placing links within existing content?

<<Google frowns upon new links from old content.>.

Not sure about that. I regularly enhance my old pages by linking to new articles under related articles heading. My readers love it and apparently Google does it too.

Same here.

I frequently update old pages with "in-content" links to new pages.
