Our old domain is still showing up as the top search hit in google. The new domain has existed for over a year now and still does not show up in searches. I know the old domain still points to the new site. Should we kill the old domain?

What steps can be taken to resolve this?

Thanks!

I know the old domain still points to the new site.

How does it "point" to the site? It should be using a 301 status redirect, nothing else.

Do not kill off the old domain.

If old pages return "200 OK" they will be indexed, because they do still exist.

The old page URLs should instead be redirecting to the new site, old page URLs redirecting to the equivalent new page URLs.

While they remain listed, they will bring traffic.
