Hello,

I see of lot of websites that do rank well on the keywords they are targeting because their homepage is "full" of the keywords they want to be one and I also see websites that rank very well with just modules and images on there homepage and not really any text...

Currently my website has some text on the homepage but I am thinking about making it more visual with images and less text and leave the text for the inside of the website.

Do you think that not having "any text or minimal text on my homepage " is going to hurt my ranking ?

Thank you,

I'm not a fan of minimal text on any page. With regard to your home page, most of your inbound links are naturally going to come into that page.

Depending on the kind of site you have...

If you have a site that's not huge, and there's a natural focus to your homepage text, then removing that text might be wasting some of your best and fastest opportunities for ranking.

On the other hand, if you have a site that's very, very large and deals with a wide variety of content, then your homepage might not focus on any one area enough to rank on it, and your main content really might be your navigation to deeper levels.

But, even in this latter case, I tend to try for a "critical mass" of text, so Google knows what this nexus of the site is about. My sense of the algorithm is that this helps the rankings on the levels further down.

Also, backing off on home page text might hurt long-tail traffic, which can be some of the most qualified you get.
