Google Results Not Displaying Tons of Pages

To all,

Perhaps related to some of the phenomenon outlined in other recent threads, it seems as if the Google index is missing a ton of pages.

Pick your favorite long tailed term in any discipline: "
kw1 kw2 kw3 kw4", and Google displays its normal result heading of "Results 1-10 of n,nnn, nnn" where n,nnn, nnn is some large number.

However, when going to the last page specified at the bottom of the Google results, it seems to only be displaying the first X hundred results. After clicking on the "repeat the search with the omitted results included" link, the total # of results displayable is still a very low #.

I don't have any filtering enabled on my end ? It seems that something is very awry with Google......

[edit reason] avoid repeating the 'x' character [/edit]

Maybe they raised the standard for relevance, so that fewer pages make the cut. The total number of results has never meant much anyway, since they only show the first thousand regardless.
