Google using different datacenters for different keywords?

We changed our title tag 1 week ago. Depending on what terms you search for brings up either the new title or the old one. "keyword1 keyword2 keyword3" search on:

Google.co.uk All Web = new title
Google.co.uk UK Pages = new title
Google.com = new title

A search for "keyword1 keyword2 keyword4":

Google.co.uk All Web = old title
Google.co.uk UK Pages = new title
Google.com = new title

The difference? keyword4 appeared in our old title, not the new one.

Any theories?

That's a very interesting data point. It would take a lot more data to be conclusive, but it's fascinating.

I've seen this loads of times. Change a page then see different versions of it show for different querys.

Have you noticed any pattern - what types of queries show older versions of the page? Is it only queries that contain a word that was dropped that show the old version, for example?

That was one effect of the Supplemental Index when those results were clearly labeled. The index was not just keyed to a url, but to a url PLUS the cache date.

I had experienced the same scenario about 2 months ago wherein Google showed old title with blue widget keyword for "blue widget" search while new title for "green widget" search. I only changed this keyword in the title.

I never went into details as it just lasted only for about 1-2 days.

This is quite common with Google however very soon Google will start throwing the same title for all the keywords.

Might be important to mention that I employ "nocache" meta tags on the pages this is happening to (?)

Do this is some algorithm for ranking website in different keyword? I mean in example, keyword finance and keyword cooking is kept in different datacenter and using different algorithm of not.

The old version of the page is still being stored by Google and some elements of that old content are still indexed (even though the new version of the page is also indexed). This was an effect of the Supplemental Index and this effect still exists for most sites.
