yeah.. i'm asking a different version of this question too.. it appears, well to me, that one is searching for house and the other is the doors to the same house.

I hope you understand, and i hope i am right.

Ok, why is the no. of backlinks on http://example.com is different from http://www.example.com?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, both of you!

The link: operator will return a sample of the backlinks to that url - and just a sample.
The full url search will return cases where that full url appears on a page, whether it's an active link or not.

Two very different situations, complicated by the fact that Google's link: operator returns on partial information. For more information about the link: operator - see the Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page.

Google's link: function has been pointless for a few years now. They are purposely hiding all the backlinks because there was a time that many of us would use it to find the places your competition had links, and then we would go there and ask for links too.

Yahoo's link: operator is much more helpful for that kind of link development these days.
