Domain age on changing to new site

We are rebranding and this means we could also change our domain name.

Our current domain is 5 years old and the new one is a lot fresher.

When we do all the 301 redirects fron olddomain.com to newdomain.com will the old domain age pass through too.

We want to do this with as little drop in rankings / traffic.

Has anyone any experience in this?

Domain age doesn't really "pass" - it is what it is, as far as I know. Changing domain names is a kind of a highwire act, and I've never seen it done without a significant period of lost search traffic.
