How Accurate is the WMT Reporting?

I'm wondering just how accurate or current the Google Webmaster Rools Reporting is.

I've submitted a revised sitemap to Google over a week ago and have yet to have the reporting reflect the higher numer of "Total URL's" but I do see a substantial reduction in "Indexed URL's". Prior to this re-submission we had about 85% of the URL's indexed.

In Webmaster Tools Reporting, it took about 4 days for any URL's to come up indexed after the re-submission. Since then the number of Indexed URL's really hasn't changed much.

The only thing I did different to the sitemap was add about 200 URL's to it, bringing it to just a bit over 2000 URL's, so I don't think that would be the problem. But what do I know. I'm just a marketing guy. :)

Why might there be the delay and reduction?

Different bits of WMT data refresh at different times, and with different timescales.

That is, something in there might update daily, and something else might update weekly.

Weekly. Wow. I think that's the case on a lot of stuff we're seeing. We don't usually see page changes in the SERP's for a week.

I just noticed too that our new feed to G-Base got accepted. I got an email notification of the number of items processed and the number inserted. They were the same, which is great. But......When I go to our Base account, it shows that the feed has not been processed yet; even when I click on "details" about the feed. It's funny how we would get the email but not have "real-time" updates on the account pages. Whether those pages be WMT or Base.

Anyway, just thought it peculiar. "Jack Bauer" gets real time updates, can't we too?
