Hi all,

Would having just one word in the index page title effect my PR?

Say I am selling widgets and put the title of my home page as "widgets". will this be a good idea, or should i put more words e.g "widget online shop and advice"?

The keyword I am aiming at is a little more niche then "widgets", but i still would like to know if I am missing out or not

thanks in advance

PR has nothing to do with content - it's always and only about links. Now, if you want to know about ranking well, a one word title won't be as much help for searches that contain other words as well - and today the percentage of longer queries continues to grow. So a fuller title tag certainly might help you rank for a wider variety of queries.

Well take a look at your next 10 REAL google searches and see how many results are A) one word and B) inticing you enough to click instead of skipping to the title of the next result.

What thing you can count on is Google seeing it as an "issue", in your Google Webmaster Tools account:

GWT > Content analysis > Title tag issues > Short title tags

So if in their eyes it's an issue, I'd say it's not something they'll reward.

theres no issue reported in webmaster report. Its just I have noticed competitors using other words in their site title. Was wondering shold I expand from one word.

Does your title tag have to be the name of your site. Or does it not matter.

Plus how should i go about fuguring out what other words to use? As i said, at the moment, its just one 5 letter word

There must be some sort of phrase that could better explain what your site is about. Think about what people would use to find your product/service. Ask friends and/or associates what they would be thinking about to find your content.

If you are selling widgets, placing "widgets" in the title is not as good as placing "widgets that fit your particular need" in the title.
