link: operator on Google: is it accurate?

i've been told it's not quite accurate to use link:mysite because not all the links appear there .

is this true ?

if not - is there a better way of knowing which pages link to my site ?

The best way to check your links is either through the Google Webmster Tools console or use Yahoo! Site Explorer. Most people prefer Yahoo! because it's information tends to be more up to date.

WOW, that changed almost everything to me ! :)
my most successful competitor on the keyword has only about 20 links when i write in google link:competitorsite,
but on yahoo site explorer it has ~2,000 links !
