a. file index corrupt.
b. backups for previous 6 days corrupt.
c. had to install 30 sites from week old backup.
d. much of the plesk backup was corrupt, and had to be redone.
As a result of all the stuffups, one whole section of one of my sites, lets call it the "blue widgets" section was not restored at all. As I was managing so many fires, I did not spot it till my rankings software showed me.
a. My site had gone from 35 to NOWHERE for "blue widgets".
b. Had gone from 11, to 7 for my main term, "widgets"
OK, so I go and fix the problem, a week later I have the number 35 spot back for "blue widgets" but on the same day my site drops to 13 for "wdigets.
i think there is something in my widgets section, that is attracting a penalty. Its not so bad that it stop me getting any rankings for "blue widgets" and it does not completely tank rankings on the whole site, but it does drag them down...
Anyone else seen something like this before?
If that understanding is correct, I'd be wary of jumping to a cause/effect connection. One test seems clear - you could zap the "blue widgets" section again for a bit and see what happens.
Before the server problem ever happened, how high was the ranking for "widgets"?
And roughly how competitive are each of those terms? Lots of Adwords? Obvious SEO on the other sites in the SERP?
The blue widegets section contains 950 pages, where the actual data on the page not part of the template is only about 2 lines of text, of which on some pages, only 4 words are unique.
Its not that the pages are about blue widgets and the site is about widgets generally that is the problem, its the fact the site has 950 junk pages.
Not only that, I've now spotted another site I manage with too similar a situation going on to not be similarly affected.
very competitive single word term.
all the top 50 sites are seoed.
