Good rankings in Google Canada but not in Google US

Here's our problem.
We are a US business hosted by a Canadian host for a couple of years and realized this was hurting our US ranking. We moved to a US host but Google can't seem to make the move. Most keywords rank great in Google Canada but terrible in Google US.

We went into our webmaster tools and set for US targeting but still are getting the same ranking as described above. Is it time to get a new domain? This has gone on long enough and is getting tiresome.
Thanks for any input.

The problem may be that Google Canada is less competitive than Google US.

It may also have to do with your either having too many Canadian inbound links and not enough US inbound links... and/or that you just haven't given the change enough time to take place.

I suggest you check Hot Topics [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's indexed page. You'll find some helpful threads in a section called "GEO-TARGETED SEARCH."

In particular, you might find these discussions helpful...

Thanks for the reply. If I do a site search in Google Canada Pages from Canada, my site is listed, even though it has not been hosted there for about a year.

Have you tried using Webmaster Tools to tell Google where you are targeting? Unless of course you want the Canada traffic as well...
