We have seen a heavy decrease of googlebot activity over the past 2 month. From about 6 million hits in November 08 to 3 million in January, and now in Feb we have actually 200'000.. We did not any significant changes on the site, except add new content daily..

We have to add, that 600'000 hits from Googlebot a month is a very reasonable number to have a actual set of our pages, as we have about 120'000 pages in 5 languages, and content is changing on 95% of our pages (almost) never..

Right now we have seen no changes in rankings, neither in referals from google..

But anyway.. As I've not found any other mention of such a problem in this Forum (since about 2004) This might not be something others are experiencing too right now..

So: something to worry about? Something we should do? :-/ Thanks for any experiences or hints..

AcsCh I wouldnt worry unless you see a decrease in actual traffic.

One of our oldest sites dropped from 1 million googlebot hits to 200,000 googlebot hits per month after being at that 1 million per month level for 7 years and we saw no change in traffic.

Further we went from around 200k pages indexed to around 20k pages indexed and saw no drop in traffic from that as well.

Its all smoke and mirrors so unless you see a actual drop in search traffic I wouldnt waste 1 more minute thinking about it.
