"Blog" posts in universal search...except they aren't blogs at all!

I've noticed on some searches that Google is showing 'Related blog posts' at the bottom of the page. However, most of the time I see these results, the pages Google is showing aren't blogs at all...just homepages or main category pages of regular websites selling a product.

I also notice that if I perform some of these searches in Google Blogsearch, these sites appear as the 'Related blogs' at the top of the results.

Any ideas how these sites are appearing in this way? They definitely aren't blogs in the normal sense of the word. I assume its because they have an RSS feed on that page?

As far as I'm aware, the only requirement for appearing in Google blog search is to have an RSS feed and ping one of the update services Google uses. There's no other verification of what is or isn't a blog.
