Hi I was hoping someone on this forum could give me an explanation for a complete drop in backlinks to my site.

In September there was over 1000 links pointing to my site and the site was also beginning to enjoy decent rankings for certain keywords.

Sometime in september the backlinks dropped to approx 50 and organic rankings for the site also took a major drop.

Does anyone have a clue (a) why this might happen and (b) is there anything i can do to get the site back to where it was in september.

The site is optimsed and i do regular directory submissions and link building.

I appreciate any help, thanks.

Eddie

If you are doing reciprocal link building... forget it. that has become alomst a con than a pro. i believe google has dropped the importance of reciprocal linking over the past year or so.

with so many directories out there now a days, i would imagine the same for directory submission.

with the exception of a few big name directories.

work on one way links... not very easy, but if you have some good stuff for someone to link to, they wont mind....

keep adding valuable content.

consider dropping your meta tags if you havent already.... keywords and description...

Keywords do more harm than good. They can't help but can hurt.

Meta description is essential to getting a good CTR.

Apart from that, yes you need to get some one way links. Out of curiosity, where are you getting your backlink info from?
