Some say sandbox, some say filters, some say in probation, some say lack of google trust, when it comes to traffic for new web sites. But the problem remains the same, traffic. Although my site is just over an year now, still not getting my desired traffic. Number of backlinks in yahoo is greater than in google, traffic from yahoo is more than from google, where as google has more indexed pages than yahoo has. Why is that so ? Has anyone faced similar results ? Is it a sign of being sandboxed ? If yes, how many more years do I have to wait for google ?

Hello bornlsr, and welcome to the forums.

Number of backlinks in yahoo is greater than in google

#1 - The Google link: operator only gives a sample of all your backlinks. Your Webmaster Tools account will give a bigger sample, but still not everything.

#2 - Also recognize that the number of backlinks is not a good indicator of ranking. It's the QUALITY of those backlinks that matters most - G and Y! judge quality of backlinks differently.

traffic from yahoo is more than from google, where as google has more indexed pages than yahoo has.

So Google has more pages indexed for you, but is ranking them poorly. Have a read in the Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page, for ideas about what may be causing ranking problems in Google.

I'd also suggest you look beyond the mass traffic number and drill down to which pages are getting traffic and for what search terms. If you're getting some traffic for a keyword where you rank bottom of page 1 or page 2 - or even lower, then those urls are good targets for you to work on.

If you are getting more Y! traffic than G, then it's (almost) certainly a link issue; check you have not traded reciprocals with inappropriate sites; check you are not linking to bad neighborhoods. If you have a history of using paidlinks, now's the time to read up and review the risk.

Also, check your webmaster tools for warnings.
