Hi just looking through the back links of 'example.com' and noticed this -

When I click on the link it clicks back to my index page...not even to article1.htm

Can anyone explain to me what it means?

Test this again (after completely-flushing your browser cache) using the "Live HTTP Headers" add-on for Firefox and Mozilla-based browsers (or something similar), and report back what HTTP transactions you see taking place between your browser and this other site's server. For example, does this other site return a 301 or 302 redirect to your site, or is your content being directly served under their URL?

That information will help determine what the intent of this link is, and how it might affect your site's URL listing in search engines.
