Google Webmaster Tools - Effects of Geographic Targetting

Hi Everyone,

We're a UK based company with a .com domain, and the site IP is .co.uk. We've got some good SERPs on google.co.uk, although our .com results are a bit lower (which I was expecting). The question is does anyone know what effect changing the Geographic target on Google webmaster tools to UK wil have on our rankings?

I was thinking of changing it to UK, thinking that it may improve our rankings on .co.uk a little bit - but I don't want to adversely affect our .com rankings...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've heard several stories of troubles with .com rankings when a country target is chosen. I don't think I'd make this experiment lightly - it's too hard to reverse if things don't work out. The only reason to target the UK would be if you really don't want US visitors.
