Major news event causes our rankings to plummet

Hi,
One of my client's website was ranking 2nd in google for place-related keyword. But a major event at that place caused all the blogs/news results to come on top and my ranking has slipped to 10th.

Its been more than a month since the event occurred.

What should be my action plan. Wait and hope that my rankings go on top as the news becomes stale?

I'd look for ways to diversify your traffic sources. Depending on one search term is a rough way to go - anything can happen!
