Sudden traffic drop after changing site title

Hi!

I have recently changed my blog's title tag, using not only my site name as I did in the past, but adding some taglines/little description on it.

Since then, traffic suddenly started to drop. Could changing a site title cause a temporay traffic drop? Is it possible?

It's only the title - domain and entries URL are untouched.

Please excuse my English!

thanks in advance

There was possibly related thread back in August: Adjusted order of title tags - rankings tanked [webmasterworld.com], but some people in that discussion had the opposite experience - and many reported that their rankings returned in a little bit.

You are talking about traffic here, and there can be many reasons for traffic to change. Is the traffic drop only for Google traffic, or is the drop happening from all traffic? If it is only Google traffic, then are specific searches affected or all searches?

Another important factor in understanding your situation is how much time is involved. Everything that happens "after" a change is not caused by the change, and the time involved can be a clue.

I have analyzed every option and found that in fact this may be the cause of my site tanking. It started slowly, but now I'm almost not receiving any Google traffic.

It's a big blog, about 1200 entries with almost 2 years online, always good traffic, not a problem. (It's a news site).

The only cause I found is that: changed title tags about 15 days ago.

What sholud I do now, just wait a little more, or change the title back to where it was?

I'm not SEO savvy, so any imput you may have will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Edit: Oh by the way, this is only happening with Google search traffic. Google image search traffic is almost intact.

If the change was directly related to increasing keyword rank then this often results in a drop in rank for a week or two (the time depends on how often Google visits the site and other factors). If you change it back to the original it may incur another wait, so I'd leave it alone.
