I have a customer site (UK business, site hosted in AU, with .com domain - no geo target set in GWT) - was ranking in top 5 results in UK for a wide range of terms in its industry. Last week it disappeared altogether from the ranks. GWT shows no errors, site:sitename.com shows all the pages results. If I search on:
keyword site:sitename.com
...matches the terms.
No matter how general or specific the phrase searched on Google (including pasting like a whole sentence in "" into G) - their results don't show.
I'm scratching my head? Could it be duplicate content - their site is unique, but some of their product descriptions are from the manufacturer and matched on (many) other eComm stores - but even for info page on their site - they don't show up? Could it be some penalty and GWT hasn't updated yet to show it?
Anyone got any suggestions on how I could drill into this further to find out what's wrong? I've scanned listings down to 1000+ to look for a 950 penalty or similar.
Tks in advance for any suggestions,
Phil
For some ideas about areas you can investigate, see the Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page.
Will also question the client about recent directory additions to directory.clientname.com to see if they've been less than careful with who they linked out to (but I would have thought that would affect directory.clientname.com rather than www.clientname.com). Tks for the tips Tedster.
Any other suggestions welcome (I'm busily reading hot topics threads on penalties).
