I have read that in the title tag, the closer the keywords are to the beginning, the more it helps in the rankings. I was wondering if the same is true of the H1 tag.

Is it better if the keywords in your heading tag are the first three words than the last three words?

It used to be this way, but not so much anymore. Just write a natural headline for your users that includes the important words. Google uses all kinds of semantic signals today that pick out what's relevant.
