Topic related icon for site in search results

Mmmhhh, I have never seen an icon for a website in the search results page:

[google.com...]
[google.com...]

Is this new?

Thanks for pointing it out. We normally don't allow specific searches, but for the purposes of your question in this case we'll make an exception.

I've never paid attention to this area. I might have seen those sports icons thousands of times and never registered them, or they might be brand new. Let's hope someone has a more definitive observation.

This has been around for some time, IIRC. It's related to searches where Google has a "onebox". You can see a whole bunch of these icons at the "search features" help page:
