Adwords keyword tool estimate vs actual visitor numbers

In google adwords it says that the search volume produced 201,000 for that 'exact' keyword last month in my market. So when i found that i was in the top 5 for this particlar keyword i was over the moon, yet i`m getting around 100 visits a day from it? i`m not complaining, but i had expected more.
does anyone have any thoughts on this?

There certainly can be discrepancies between the real world and the search volume estimates, which often seem to include semantic variations, variations on word order and so on. However, that is a VERY large discrepancy.

Have you checked to see if your site is ranking that well when the search is done from other geographic locations? ...at other times of the day or days of the week? And by any chance, is the computer you use to check rankings logged into a Google account at the time?

3,000 a month doesn't sound too far off. Consider how much adwords and the top 3 spots take and there's not really much left for everyone else.

Thanks for that comment, Bradley. You're right - I wasn't thinking clearly about the difference between "per month" and "per day".
