I have recently set up a website on an old domain that I previously had some sort of cash parking pages on it. I have redirected the domain through to a Google Apps account and it'n new pages are in the index. But the problem is that in my Google WMT it is showing a bunch of URL's that are not in my site. I think they are from the old site that was on the domain. What can I do to solve remove these errors as I'm sure it is impacting upon my results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The Webmaster Tools page for crawl errors states this: "Note: Not all errors may be actual problems. For example, you may have chosen to deliberately block crawlers from some pages. If that's the case, there's no need to fix the error."
If you want to stop googlebot from even requesting those legacy URLs, you can use robots.txt to block them and the requests will stop. They still may show as errors in WMT for a while. Google does this so webmasters can see if they've made technical changes that they didn't intend. Same reasoning goes for listing 404 0r 410 errors, especially for URLs that previously existed or that have backlinks.
