Situation:

One of our authority sites has been copied onto multiple sites without our permission.

Is this hurting our SERPS?

Thanx

Hello, and welcome to the forums.

Situations like this do not place a penalty against your site with Google - but the problem is that Google prefers only to show one version of content to the searcher and the others will get filtered out of any given set of search results.

So the good news is that yours site will not have a penalty against it, but the bad news is that you still may see a traffic loss. So the question is do you see a traffic loss? Then check the related search terms and see if an un-authorized copy of your content is ranking for that search instead of your site.

If that is the case - here's a thread that discusses what steps you can take:

You'll find a link to that post in our Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page. It's in the section called "DEfending Your Rankings."
