Hi,

I did put a sitemap on my FTP and did upload it on the webmaster tools of google. However I don't have one directly on my website and web pages.

I am wondering what is the most efficient for google ( FTP or directly on the website )and if in addition to the webmaster tools I need to create one on my website.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't think there's any significant difference.

When your Sitemap changes, you can resubmit it to Google to let us know. You can resubmit your Sitemap in one of two ways:

Using Webmaster Tools
Sending a HTTP request to Google

Google Webmaster Help - Resubmitting a Sitemap [google.com]

If you include the Sitemap as a url on your domain, then you would ping Google through an HTTP request when you update the file. The details are on the page I quoted above.
