Site rankings bouncing around like crazy

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I am responsible for the SEO of quite a few websites that have up until this last week been holding solid positions in the top 5 for their given keywords. Suddenly they are all over the place!

On minute one of them will drop to the third page then come right back up. I am consistently building links for these sites.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, petersa :)

I assume you're talking about Google rankings? If so, this effect has been discussed in great detail over on the Google forum:

...quite a few websites that have up until this last week been holding solid positions in the top 5...

If this happened to all of your sites at the same time, and if your sites happen to share some common inbound linking sources, then the Yo-Yo-ing that your sites are experiencing might have to do with the weakening of shared upstream links.
