I've made changes to a couple of duplicate meta tags. I review this in webmaster tools but they are still showing me with an error and it says the site was updated Aug 18th after I made the changes....

Any ideas?

Finally can do words in keyword meta tags need to be separated by a comma and a space, just a comma, or does it make a difference? (ex widgets, green, blue or widgets, green, blue)

Keyword tags? Haven't used them for years! Google doesn't read them - but Yahoo used to say keyword phrase, next phrase - so a comma and a space - if you really want to put them in. But they really, really are not needed for SEO and haven't been for years.

The data in WMT is often quite out of synch. Google pulls it in from different parts of their back end and it can take a while, sometimes quite a while, to all line up after you make changes.

The ranking algorithms, however, are more mission critical for Google than the reports are (reporting functions include special operators such as site: or cache: or link:) so organic rankings are usually working with the most recently spidered data.

Con,

Keep an eye on when the changes are reflected when browsing the site: -- we tend to see the changes upon the recaching.

I mean "changes" in terms of a duplicate problem having been corrected and accounted for within the serps. Of course, sometimes this takes a long while for the deep pages that don't have a lot of inbounds, so outside of expediting that with a bit of juice, waiting becomes the name of the game.

WMT can take a very long time to pick up new data.

For instance, it updated yesterday and it now shows a new incoming link that it says was last found on July 26th.

Yesterday is the first time that they listed that link, even though that link data has supposedly been updated at least 2 or 3 times between July 26th and yesterday.

Link data seems to update about two days after the "Home Page Last Visited" date changes.
