Hi,

I just noticed a very interesting thing. Here's the case:

I have two blogs. One is established, seprate domain, dedicated hosting, decent traffic, good PR, the other one is a blogspot - just a simple blog, PR0, nothing special - they are both on the same topic (no duplicate content though).

The established blog:
1) Googlebot visits it every day but in my webmaster tools it shows that the last date it visited was June 17 :D
2) It never gets picked up by Google Alerts. I have had situations when I sniff out the news before BBC does. And even though Googlebot follows the sitemap change in the next three hours, the post never appears in Alerts.
3) I am within TOP 20 for my main keywords, so I am not being penalized.

The cra**y blog:
1) Googlebot runs to the spot in next two minutes after I have posted, it gets indexed within next 1.5 hour
2) The post is sent out in the Google Alerts for a VERY competitive keyphrase
3) Yesterday I emerged on TOP1 for a quite competitive keyphrase

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining because I am earning dosh :D It is just that I refuse to understand why WHY Google is sometimes so stubborn. My established blog is MUCH better than the blogspot one!

I've always found the reports from Google Alerts to be a bit random, although I confess I've never noticed a pattern.

What settings do you have for the alerts? I usually choose comprehensive, which typically is anything but!

Yes, all my alerts are comprehensive too!

Last night I blogged a post into my blogspot on my Blackberry, hiding under a blanket :)) Early in the morning it was already in Google search results!
