Google Search Auto-Populate - is this new?

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing the Google search box auto-populate with suggested searches like I'm seeing today.

Amazing how it shows up after Cuil launches. Maybe I've been missing it, or is this new?

It sounds like Google may be testing google suggest [google.com] in the main results.

Probably is an expanded test. I've seen it before in months past, but not recently, except for the toolbar search box. I just checked in four browsers and I'm not seeing it today.

Google has an auto complete feature today.

when typing a keyword you are presented with a drop down to select some other popular searches. Even showing you how many results for each term. did you know widgets has 122,000,000 results?

I've been seeing this using FireFox on a Mac for a long time.

Long term feature on Firefox, although possibly through a plug-in.
