Google is smart enough to know traffic coming from social sites

Hi,

Today when I logged in to GWT I noticed that for some keywords I am ranking at number 2 position on Google.
When I searched that keyword I found out that it is not actually me but DIGG and MIXX links at number 2 position which in turn were actually my website submissions.
So it means Google is smart enough to differentiate that it is your website that ranks higher for that keyword and not some social bookmarking website.

Very interesting. I'm not sure if that means Google is smart or Google gets confused! If WMT says a website ranks in a certain position, I think it ought to be THAT website that ranks, not some social site.

Yes that's what I also thought. I mean if Google knows that the link is actually my website then why not show it in the first place rather that social bookmarking website's link.
