a strange thing happen to my site.
1) Search "www.example.com" in google, in the search result, I can't find the homepage anymore.

2) Search "site:example.com" in google, it list "Results 1 - 10 of about 157 from example.com", I also can't find my homepage here.

Does it mean that Google clean my homepage?

Can you give me some idea?

It can mean a temporary data loss at Google, and nothing more than that. But it might mean you have or had a problem on your server. Have you checked in Webmaster Tools for any relevant reports or messages?

Yes, I do. In the webmaster Tool, it shows

(1)Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Jul 13, 2008.

(2)Pages from your site are included in Google's index.

as what you said, I think it's something about data update.

I noticed this morning that the home page wasn't listed or didn't come up first for about ten different sites - if it was one site, I'd be worried I'd done something; if it's ten sites or more, I figure it's probably Google. No ranking or traffic losses, as far as I can see.

If you have some html text on your home page that is unique to that page, search for it in quotes. If that doesn't come up in Google search, then there's perhaps some reason for concern.

But the site:domain operator and WMT have shown themselves to be buggy enough that they're clearly not to be depended on... or to be worried about very much when they don't work.

Interesting, I just tried five key search arguements and only 1 returned the home page. On the other hand the other four arguements all seem to be going to the most relevant pages within the site.

How old is site?
If is a new site (few weeks) is normally , if it is not can be a penalty or a filter.

Google deliberately and consistently does not list all the pages in webmaster searches, so that's one issue.

Site newness is another, server problems, even brief ones, and Google updating can also figure.

Personally, I prefer to search for [a unique string of text] - if that finds my page, I postpone the panic! :)

Yes, unfortunately these data problems do happen. I'm glad your home page is back, and thanks for letting us know.

We've got a similar report in another thread, so I'm locking this one. We can take any future comments on this kind of thing over there.
