I have a new site launched about 2.5 months ago
google indexed about 5% of the site within three weeks and the number stayed the same for another several weeks; but about a couple weeks ago i started to notice that the number of indexed pages were falling everyday...last week, it stopped falling for a few days then start to slowly decrease and reached a new low today...this is worrying me so much...

I have submitted my first site map last week but havent seen any new indexed pages until today. i have been updating the files for the past week but doesnt look like that is helping.

is something like this normal? should i expect to see the indexed page numbers start going up again as soon as googlebot craw the site? what can i do?

thank you for your help.

Well, oscillations in the number of pages indexed is normal - up and down and up and down. Hard to know what it means, sometimes except it seems to occur more when Google is moving a lot of data around and creating larger scale effects in the serach results.

Don't take that number to heart, especially with a new site - but do watch your actual search traffic above all.
