XML Sitemap for Google - or Not?

I have not submitted a sitemap for any of my sites. But in the recent usa today interview with Matt Cutts, he says this is important.

Question - if a sitemap I've generated has the same amount of links that google sees in the site:www.example.com command, do I need to submit a site map? Do you think it would help, hurt or otherwise?

Thanks!

There are differing opinions on this question. But if I had the same situation you see - where Google has indexed all your pages through regular crawling - I would not add an xml sitemap. It's an "extra" and definitely not a requirement.
