If you create a blog at foo.com/blog/ and install a sitemap generator for the blog ONLY, will the fact that the rest of the site is not included in the blog's sitemap cause any problems with Google?

(The rest of the 2,000-page site does not contain a sitemap, but is currently being spidered fine)

Google uses an xml sitemap as an addition to its regular crawling, not to replace or exclude its normal url discovery and spidering. So I think you'll be fine.

You may want to set up your blog directory as its own "website" in Webmaster Tools, just to send an extra signal.

Good idea, I didn't realize you could do that. Thanks, Ted.
