Doing this would surely make Google a much better search engine as webmasters would be able to keep sites within Googles preferences and get positions inwhich they deserve, this would make websites better for everyone and stop link spamming to gain higher serp positions.
Google know why certain sites rank high and others don't, so why only give us very untargeted guidlines to try and interpret.
Its about time a search engine was written which didn't rely on links and instead relied on webmasters working with them instead of fighting them to gain positions.
Good hard working webmasters with good original content who followed the search engines rules would benifit and so would the visitors, lazy webmasters with copied content who made up there own rules would oot benefit.
Money should be thrown into completely redesigning the search engine and not into the ever losing battle of altering secret algo's to try and penalize the bad sites because too many good websites are being lost in the process.

Imagine in if the law worked like Google, how many innocent people would get sent to prison, and how many bad people would get rewarded.
If nobody gets told what is wrong and right then who is to blame if we get it wrong sometimes?
Back then there were a number of the members here saying that there was no reason whatsoever that Google should help anybody do anything. OK, fair enough, but they did it anyway and we're all the better for it.
I'm not saying or even implying that it was our constant urging that brought that about -- when you have many of the very smartest people in the tech field working for you, they come up with all this stuff on their own -- but nevertheless, it did happen at the very time that we were pushing for it, and speaking for myself, I'm very grateful.
So who knows what may happen down the road? One of the things I'd like to see from GWT is a further explanation as to which of our pages has an "Unreachable URL". I appreciate that they even tell me that there IS a problem with a link, but in addition to that if I knew which page on my site had that bad link, it could be cleared up more quickly. It would not surprize me one bit if someday that info is provided, along with much more that we're not told today.
