Javascript redirect confuses the cache: and site: operators

Two of the 'backup' domains of a site we own are showing same results as the site we are redirecting to when a cache: command is used google search. However when the site: command is used no pages are showing as being indexed for the redirecting domains. We used a simple javascript redirect.
I'm wondering whether this would cause a duplicate content situation for us somehow. (A '301' redirect would have been better I guess but it seems to be have been done this way for somereason in the past).

Sure, it could cause a duplicate issue - also an accidental flag for a questionable redirect and other potential mayhem. It would be wise to change to 301 redirects.
