Hi all,

Is the Google Removal Tool in WMT case-sensitive, like ROBOTS.TXT is ?

I am running a Windows-based server, and noticed that I have 2 webpages indexed in Google (one is in the supplemental pages):

WidgetItem.htm (in Google main index) AND

widgetitem.htm (in Google supplemental)

I want to remove the latter from G's index. Is the removal tool case sensitive ? Can I safely remove "widgetitem.htm" without effecting the status of "WidgetItem.htm" ?

Thanks in advance,

Doug

The removal tool is case sensitive - just be sure that your server also responds in a case sensitive manner for whichever method you are using: 404, robots.txt or robots meta-tag.

If something does go wrong, you can now restore the affected urls within a few days (it used to be a 6 month wait).

Thank you, tedster, for that confirmation. I read, re-read, and read again, the explanation, and the insinuation was that you re-store within the 90 day limit, and that restoration would take about a week. I guess I wanted to hear it from someone else who is respected on this board, so thanks !

And yes, I am currently handling this via ROBOTS.TXT (which is also case-sensitive).

The 90 day period is the minimum period that Google says the removal will be effective. Here's exactly what Google says about in the Help Center pages - with information about the reinclude function:

When you use the URL removal request tool to remove content from the Google index, your content is removed for a minimum of 90 days. However, you can reinclude your content at any time during the 90-day period by following these steps:

[google.com...]

All that said, my one caveat is that I've never used the reinclude url function personally. So what I know is second hand,
