Sketchy linking affecting other sites on same server?

As the title says, can a sketchy back link profile for one site affect rankings of another site on the same server with a clean back link profile? Assuming these sites do not link to each other.

No but if the IP address is all the same for the server then there may be issues.

If site A & Site B are not linked then the back link profiles will not effect one another, even if they do share an IP. This is my understanding anyway.

Even if they are linked it would not automatically result in any negative effects, it would be a contributing factor if google detected any other dark things at play with your 'clean' site.

Not entirely true there have been cases where sites have felt a backlash from bad acts by others on a server... does not happen often.

Depends more on how extensive the bad acts were and if the domains are registered to the same person. Do they have any links in common apart from Yahoo or DMOZ?
