I am a new webmaster and am not sure how long it takes for Googlebot to renew the cache of my newly-created site. I am sure that it is unpredictable to a large degree, but can someone tell me...are we talking about days? weeks? or maybe even months?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, Buddy.

Yes, it is extremely variable. If you are talking about the actual "cached" version of the page, that can be a lot slower even than updating the indexed version of your page that is used for ranking calculations.

There are three different steps here Spidering > Indexing > Cached version update. Spidering can be anything from every few hours to weeks in between. That's the starting point, and everything cascades from there.

The variables involved when Google's crawl algorithm allocates a spidering schedule include how much traffic your pages get, how frequently your pages change, PR and backlink strength - plus a lot more I'm sure, as they budget their crawling resources.
