hi
i rank well the term second hand widget, now i want to improve that position, i also notice that if i right click and view related pages then the site all represent that search term.
do i get some links which the anchor text being second hand widget and link to that page or do i link it elsewhere?
Do you have any alternative suggestions?

The most important thing you can do is study the SERPs where you are competing. All manner of actions can help... or hurt. They key is in understanding the specific details of your site and your competition. There's no generic advice that you can depend on, once you are already ranking. Inboond links are usually helpful, unless they start to look articifical because they use mostly the same anchor text, or don't come from an independent source, etc.

There are hundreds of areas you can work with - so do some serious study.

thank you ted
being as already rank in forth for this particular search term, i have no pr and very few back links. With that in mind i thought i would get some links, now do i link to my page thats ranking for that term or would it be better to link to my home page?

Deep links (internal links) can be very powerful. A lot depends on the specifics involved - is this target page just one click away from the home page, for instance, and what the overall depth of the site information is. I'd probably be happiest with a deep link, if that's the most on-topic for the search term.

the pages area 2 down from the home page. I read recently that google are only taking one link per site, is this correct?

Then I'd go for the direct link to the interior page.

Sorry, I don't understand the rest of your question - can you provide some more precise detail?

i read on forum somewhere that reguardless of how many links you place on a website that google uses one of those links, not all.

Some people around the web have been guessing that to be true - but it doesn't seem to be true, from what I see in practice. While Google may not count ten links from the same domain ten times as much as one link, they do not just get ignored. This is especially true If the various links point to different urls on the target site.

But getting your inbound links all from the same source is not a good idea. You need a lot more balance in a backlink profile for long term success.

Be careful about the source when taking advice. Even the top SEOs do not always see eye to eye on all questions.

I know ive been arouind since 2000 seeing various differnet ways and things, being self taught it takes a while. I have one link that has 6 keywords that link to different pages in my site, i cant work out if thats a good thing or a bad one as it looks a little like a text block, it was placed 5 years ago.
I have been looking at whether this is what has turned my other site upside down.
Also i have been taking a close look at xss vulnerablilties, i am amazed how many are suseptable to this.
