Hi

i have noticed recently that my index page is not cached by Google but is still indexed and appears highly in the search. All the other pages are cached however.

can any one explain this?

thanks

The publicly viewable cache is an independent process - so something can go buggy there and not affect indexing or ranking. I appreciate that seeing this happen to your index page might be a concern - but odds are there's no real problem, since your rankings are not affected.

Hi craig20,

It happened to me 2 weeks ago on one of my sites. After a few days it was sorted out on its own.

At first I was the only website who had this problem in my niche, a few days later some other competitors were having the same problem.

So just try and check your competitors, see if they have the same problem.....

Sometimes I check the google cache date, just to get an idea about how often google crawls competitor sites.

Today I get an error message, regardind the main web page, something like:

Your search - cache:ywDPXnN0vpQJ:www. example. com/ search text - did not match any documents.

What does it mean?

That site has no penalizations; it ranks fine; it shows sitelinks etc.
Subpages have been cached.
